The good, the bad, the ugly: Eyelash extentions

something went wrong:

Eyelash Extension Aftercare Information:

The eyelash cycle is approximately four to twelve weeks.  Do not be alarmed if some of your lashes fall out quickly (they most likely were at the end of their cycle).  The majority of extensions will stay through a complete cycle if you follow these guidelines:

  • Your natural eyelashes should not get wet for a minimum of two hours;  48 hours would be ideal to allow the adhesive properly to bond to a dry eyelash (soggy eyelashes do not make for a good adhesion).  A dry washcloth can be rolled up and placed over your brows when you shower to protect your extensions from becoming totally saturated.

  • Do not use regular or waterproof mascara.  Most brands of mascara contain chemical properties and oils that will break down the adhesive.  Removing mascara from your lashes can cause the extensions to fall off prematurely as well.  If you want to further enhance your lash extensions, we have a specially formulated eyelash extension mascara that is ideal for coating your extensions.  Ask your lash stylist for more information.

  • Take special care around the eye area when cleansing your face. Gently cleanse the eye area and do not scrub or rug your eyes.  Avoid any type of oil-based product around the eyes.  Again, the oils will break down the adhesive and cause the extensions to fall offResuming with normal activities is ok (i.e. - face washing).  When possible, it is best to wait up to 12 hours.

  • Never use a clamp-style eyelash curler on your extensions.  This can permanently damage not only the extensions, but your natural eyelashes as well.  Eyelash combs are great for grooming your lashes every morning.

  • Adhesives are cured by moisture, however, by avoiding extreme variation of heat, humidity, and cold weather (i.e. – hot showers, saunas, zero degree weather), your extensions can last longer.  Normal activities like swimming, can resume after the appointment (more)

  • Be sure to schedule appointment every 2 to 3 weeks for timely touch-ups.  This will keep your lashes looking full and natural, indefinitely.

  • Do not attempt to remove the extensions yourself.  Have them removed by your professional.

  • Contact your Certified Stylist with any questions or concerns.

Enjoy your new lashes!

8 Little Known Facts About Eyelash Extensions

1. The industry term “eyelash extensions” applies to single synthetic lashes only. Groups of synthetic lashes are called flares, clusters or tabs. They are heavier than eyelash extensions and not recommended for frequent use or long lengths of time.
2. Eyelash extensions are not “one size fits all”. Everyone’s lashes are different and eyelash extensions should be customized to each individual for the correct length and thickness to suit their look and ensure the health of their natural lashes. Not everyone can or should get super long or super thick eyelash extensions!
3. A full set of eyelash extensions is not all one length. The shape of your lash line tapers – it’s longer in the center and shorter on the outsides and your extensions should be too. Following the design of the natural lashes creates natural-looking extensions!
4. Natural lashes grow to a finite length (different for each person), fall out and are replaced by new growth, just like the hairs on your head. When eyelash extensions are applied and maintained correctly, they will grow out with your natural lash and still be attached to the lash when it sheds.
5. Natural lashes are constantly growing in and falling out at different times so your eyelash extensions will too! There is no set amount of time that eyelash extensions will last because they will shed with the natural lash they are attached to when it grows out and that time varies. Due to growth cycles and different stages, the best estimate is that you will shed 1-5 natural lashes per day – including those with extensions and those without. Frequent re-lashes will replace those that have shed to maintain a full look.
6. You SHOULD be seeing your natural lashes and extensions fall out together. This is normal. If your extensions fall off before the natural lash, the adhesive bond wasn’t strong enough or maintenance instructions were not followed correctly.
7. You CAN wear mascara on eyelash extensions but it MUST be OIL-FREE.You shouldn’t need to, but you can. (Not all products labeled  “oil-free” are truly oil-free – they only have to be 70% oil-free to be labeled that way, according to the FDA. Your best bet for extension care is to purchase products specifically designed for eyelash extensions.)
8. Eyelash extension adhesive is designed to create a permanent bond between the extension and the natural lash. It is nearly impossible to remove extensions yourself without damaging your natural lashes. See a professional if you need removal!

Why Airbrush???

Airbush Makeup & HDTV COPIED FROM AIRBRUSH ACADEMY BLOG

I copied this blog from the Airbrush Academy Blog so people know what airbrush is all about.
---------------------------------------
As more television stations broadcast in HDTV, makeup artists must adjust their technique and products for a screen resolution quality that has as much as10 times more picture detail than analogue TV!

When I was learning makeup at NBC some 20 years ago, we were taught that makeup for TV was more forgiving than that of film. Heavier makeup could be used in broadcast TV because of the overhead lighting. Furthermore, because the station was broadcasting at about 525 scan lines, pancake makeup could be used to hide a multitude of problems.

But as years passed, cameras changed, lighting changed, and now the quality and detail of HDTV is so precise that our makeup must be clean, color correct and lightweight—yet still offer the coverage needed to make newscasters and actors look great.

Enter The Airbrush?
More than twenty years ago Dina Ousley, one of the founders of the Dinair Airbrush Systems, started to research the concept of a clean, natural makeup using the art style of pointillism. She discovered that custom foundation makeup, shot through an airbrush pen, disperses a fine mist to the face, producing a natural result in both skin tone and texture.

Scars, discolorations, under-eye circles and puffiness seem to disappear. The technique has taken hold in our industry and is now big business in Hollywood and New York. Airbrush makeup is being used on the Shows Friends , Will and Grace , CBS 48 Hours , and Jay Leno. Catherine Zeta Jones, Brad Pitt, Jennifer Lopez, former President Clinton and former Vice President Al Gore are also touting the excellent results achieved from airbrushed makeup! As more TV stations switch to HDTV their makeup departments will have to make the switch to airbrush makeup.

The airbrush sprays tiny dots or pixels of makeup at a low psi through a customized compressor. Going on, it feels like a soft whisper of air. It dries to a matte finish on contact with the skin and is water-resistant.

The tiny pixels of foundation give the same effect as what the digital camera sees. A person's own skin tone comes through, giving a natural appearance. Men love it because it is so lightweight that they don't feel like they are wearing makeup.

The technology is neither terribly expensive nor terribly inexpensive. Start-up kits consisting of a compressor, airbrush pen, and hose cost about $400 and up. A bottle of foundation costs about $20, with numerous applications per bottle.

When starting the process, the liquid foundation is poured directly into the airbrush cup, making it sanitary for use by several people. With only a few drops of the makeup, a transparent natural look can be achieved and each pass of the airbrush over the face and body offers more coverage.

I'm not alone in my praises for this technique. "Air Brush makeup is an easy and fast medium to achieve the quality that HDTV requires," says New York Makeup Artist Eva Marie Denst at Makeup Mania. Eva has tested the three top airbrush systems: Dinair, Temptu Body Art and Air Craft. Pandora Zolotor, Director of Marketing at Temptu also shoots in DV.

Speaking from her experience she notes, "The Airbrush creates an even plane and gives an overall smoothness…shadows and puffiness disappear." Airbrush makeup creates a look that can't be achieved with sponges, or fingers. It is no longer the future, it is here, hand in hand with HD.

Whether it's digital photography, footage shot in hi-def and transferred to film, or live broadcast, airbrush makeup is the right solution for today's media!
